Harry Newman to return to centre as Leeds Rhinos aim up for York Knights

HARRY NEWMAN will return to the centres at York Knights on Sunday, Leeds Rhinos coach Brad Arthur has confirmed.

Jack Bird is unavailable after failing an HIA in Leeds’ loss to Leigh Leopards last Thursday.

Newman has played the last three matches on the wing, since the return of Ash Handley from injury in the other centre spot alongside Bird.

For the York match, England international Newman will shift back to his strongest position, with Arthur having a choice to make on the wing.

“We don’t get anyone back from injury just yet,” he said.

“Harry Newman and Ash Handley will be our two centres. We have a couple of options for the wing – Riley Lumb is an option and Oscar Brown played well in the reserves.”

James McDonnell will still be absent with a pec injury, but the second-rower will be back before the end of the regular season.

Arthur explained: “James McDonnell is pushing for the Wigan game (on Saturday, September 5).

“If he had his way he would be playing this week as he is very tough.

“He won’t get to 100 percent but we are aiming for Wigan.”

Arthur also had kind words to say about the Knights – as well as Bradford Bulls and Toulouse Olympique – following their first season ever in Super League.

“They have done a really good job – like all the promoted teams they have done well,” he said.

“Every game they are in it and have a fighting chance. I’ve been impressed by all three.”
