JIM LENIHAN is delighted to be keeping the “massively pivotal” Harry Rushton at Huddersfield Giants until 2030.
The loose-forward has been a leading light in Huddersfield’s resurgence under Australian coach Lenihan, winning five games in six before Friday’s 36-6 loss at Hull KR.
Rushton’s previous deal only lasted until the end of next season, but the former Wigan Warriors and Canberra Raiders man will be sticking with the Giants for the long term.
“He’s embraced the physicality and how we want to play,” said Lenihan of the 24-year-old, who has made 75 appearances in four seasons at the club.
“While Cluney (skipper Adam Clune) was injured he really stepped into a leadership role and been influential to the lads.
“He’s shown he can step into that captain’s role and lead our squad, not just our forward pack, and he can be an example to the rest of the team.
“He’s still young so he can get even better, and this is extremely exciting for the club.”
Rushton said: “The club is going in the right direction as we’ve seen at the back end of this year, so I’m really excited for the next four years.”
