After an emotional and unforgettable journey with Featherstone, Jamaican International Ashton Golding has a new home ahead of the upcoming season.
He recently signed for Huddersfield Giants, and is looking to finally establish himself as an integral full-back.
Ahead of the new season, we caught up with Golding on his incredible and somewhat inspirational journey, aswell as his future.
It all began for Golding with his grandfather, and almost immediately, he was addicted to our sport. He explained: “My grandfather used to pass me the ball in our garden and before I knew it, I was hooked.”
Next, he briefly explains whether or not his quick transition between three clubs (Leeds, Featherstone and Huddersfield) has impacted his career.
“It’s not impacted that much really. I loved my time at the Rhinos and my season with Featherstone is something I don’t think I’ll ever forget.
Golding also reveals his excitement in his recent move; “My transfer is another chapter in my career and hopefully, it’ll see me reach my full potential.”
As we can be almost certain of, based on his previous positional experience, he’ll play the majority of his time at full-back. Speaking about his new club, Golding said: “I’m looking forward to the opening round (against Catalans in Perpignan), and from there I’ll take it week by week.”
He also briefly elaborated on his team ethos: “All I want is for Huddersfield to be successful, and if I can have some good form it’s a bonus.
“As a team, we have come on leaps and bounds which should help us with the inconsistencies from last season.
“I hope to play my part, big or small, to the best of my ability and be ready to work when I’m called upon.”
