ROCHDALE Hornets have signed former Super League and NRL hooker Scott Moore.
Moore, 30, joins Hornets after a spell away from the game after being jailed in March 2018 for dangerous driving and assault.
But Hornets CEO Steve Kerr says the club is relishing his arrival and it believes his experience will be vital, both on and off the field. He most recently featured for Bradford Bulls in the Championship in 2017.
“While we acknowledge and understand the circumstances around why Scott has been away from the game, we are excited to have him with us in 2019 and believe we can provide him with the environment and opportunity to further his already impressive Rugby League career,” said Kerr.
“I have spoken with Scott on a number of occasions and from the discussions we have had, I know he will be a great asset to us both on and off the field.
“Carl (Forster) has worked really hard with Scott to get this over the line, and while there were other clubs interested in acquiring Scott’s services, the chance of working with Carl and his staff in the family environment we have at Hornets was too good to turn down.”
Moore started his career at St Helens and spent seven years at the club where he made his senior debut at just 16 years of age, making him one of the youngest ever Super League players.
He also featured for Castleford, Widnes and Huddersfield, where he was named in the 2009 Super League Dream Team.
He then headed down under to ply his trade at North Queensland Cowboys.
On his return to the UK, Moore signed at London Broncos before moving on to Castleford, Wakefield and Bradford. The experienced forward is now looking forward to a new journey at Spotland.
“I’m over the moon to have signed at Rochdale and I’m really looking forward to getting back to normality,” said Moore.
“I’m excited to link in with the boys and staff and I can’t wait to see what 2019 brings.”
Carl Forster was imperative in bringing Scott to the club, with the two crossing paths during their careers.
“Scott is a great capture for us,” said Forster.
“We’ve beaten off competition to bring him in and I’m delighted he’s chosen us.
“His quality is unquestionable and his experience will be huge. It’s my job to get the best out of him and I’m confident I’ll do that.”
