HUDDERSFIELD GIANTS halfback Oliver Russell has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2026 Super League season with a ruptured Achilles.
Russell suffered the injury in Huddersfield’s 30-14 loss to Bradford Bulls last week, and now Giants head coach Jim Lenihan has confirmed the club’s fears.
“Oliver has had a 50 percent rupture of his Achilles and will be out for the rest of the year,” Lenihan said of the 27-year-old, who has scored three tries and 15 goals for the club this season.
“I don’t think it will require surgery but he will be in a boot for the next four or five months.”
The head coach also gave a damning prognosis on Asher O’Donnell and Tom Burgess, with neither expected to return before the end of the campaign.
“Asher O’Donnell is finished for the year. He needed an ankle reconstruction of the ligaments because the hip drop tackle landed on him and ruptured both sides.
“Swifty (Adam Swift) won’t play this week. He came out of the game with a calf issue. He will be out for four to six weeks.
“Tom Burgess had hip surgery yesterday. He is done now for the year, so there are no lagging effects going into next year.
“He is still signed for next year so he is putting himself in a position to play next year.”
