Huddersfield Giants starlet likened to Trent Barrett as Luke Robinson hints at debut

YOUNG Huddersfield Giants starlet Marshall Land has been likened to Trent Barrett as the teenager gears up for a possible debut against Wakefield Trinity tomorrow (Saturday).

Land has yet to make a first-team appearance for the Giants, but signed his first professional contract with the West Yorkshire club back in April.

And Robinson has hinted that he may well debut following Olly Russell’s loan clause against his parent club, with the Huddersfield boss claiming Land could become a Barrett-lookalike in years to come.

“Olly Russell played really well for us and justified why we have got him back,” Robinson said.

“It’s his parent club we face this weekend though so there are stipulations that he can’t play against them so there will be a change in there.

“That will mean there’s another halfback partnership.

“It’s a realistic possibility Marshall will make his debut. We have had turbulent times this year but we have given five debuts this year that probably wouldn’t have got that experience if not for injuries.

“At the moment, Marshall is a running 6 more than anything else. He’s got a really big frame, he’s really tall.

“When he puts some weight on in the gym and matures a little bit, I think he will have a look of Trent Barrett.”
