ANDY LAST joked he was “a little embarrassed” by his touchline celebrations at the end of Hull FC’s win at St Helens.
But they were fully justified as Hull ended a seven-match losing run and finally put smiles back on faces.
The interim coach was seen jumping for joy after James Bell intercepted to seal a 32-18 victory – their first at Saints since 2017, and which sealed the Steve Prescott Cup.
Last said: “I slipped back into assistant coach mode when Belly scored the runaway try to seal it for us, forgetting completely that the camera is going to be on me!
“Watching it back, I’m a little embarrassed, but that’s the emotion of the game, celebrating a well-earned, hard-fought two points.
“The lads have got their rewards for the hard work they’re putting in. I’ve spoken previously about how close we’ve been in matches and not got the rewards, but we got them tonight.
“There are still things we need to tidy up and improve, but I’m really pleased for the group of players and for the supporters.
“Some senior players stood up and put in their best performance for a number of weeks.
“Two old Saints boys, James Bell and Batch (Joe Batchelor), were outstanding. Zak Hardaker also came up with some big plays before, and Aidan Sezer led the team.”
Forward Yusuf Aydin came off in the first half with a knee injury and Last confirmed: “He’s gone for the season. He’s done his PCL.
“It’s a real shame because Yusuf plays some good minutes. He was only recently back from suspension and has contributed to the team.”
