HULL KR could field their strongest spine for only the fifth time all season when Warrington Wolves visit Sewell Group Craven Park on Tuesday.
That’s because not only is halfback Mikey Lewis back in contention after serving a four-match ban, but fullback Arthur Mourgue is also named in Willie Peters’ 21-man squad after three weeks out with a broken thumb.
The duo plus Tyrone May played together in the opening Super League round plus the World Club Challenge win over Brisbane Broncos (the match which has caused this round-two fixture to be played on a midweek date), but Mourgue suffered a pectoral injury in the latter, then did the same on his return in May.
With Sauaso Sue also back following a knock – Noah Booth, Jack Charles and Frankie Dearlove make way in the squad – the Robins are close to full strength for a key meeting of the sides currently positioned fifth and third respectively in the table.
Warrington are also gathering in strength, not least with George Williams’ successful return from a neck injury in last Thursday’s win over York Knights.
He’s set to back up on Tuesday, with coach Sam Burgess making three changes to his 21-man squad.
Kelepi Tanginoa, who has been managing a knee complaint, comes in along with Liam Byrne and Josh Smith as Burgess seeks to rotate his options during the busy period.
Cai Taylor-Wray, Adam Holroyd and Lachlan Webster drop out for the Wolves, who will be hoping for a repeat of the sides’ meeting last month, which they won 34-12 at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
That was their first win in seven against Hull KR, but another would see them narrow the gap to leading pair Leeds Rhinos and Wigan Warriors to just two points.
