Hull KR’s Sami Sauiluma transfer breaks down

Sami Sauiluma’s proposed transfer to Super League with Hull Kingston Rovers has collapsed, after he was rejected a visa to make the move across the world and play for the Robins.

Sauiluma, who has been on trial with Gold Coast Titans in pre-season this year, was going to join KR and play with fellow ex-Canberra men Dane Tilse and Terry Campese, but he has failed to meet the requirements needed for a visa.

Players must have played 50 per cent of qualifying games in an applicable period to qualify for a visa to play rugby league in the UK, but Sauiluma has only played three times since the start of last season, all of which were for Cronulla.

With the Titans still short on outside backs two weeks out from the start of the season, he will now get a chance to impress – Burleigh coach Jim Lenihan is happy to have him back in his squad for the time being.

“That’s great news, that’s been really welcome,” Lenihan told NRL.com.

“He didn’t have any [English] heritage and he hadn’t played enough NRL games so they struggled to get him past the post.
