HUNSLET addition Lewis Hagan is following the family way by signing up in south Leeds.
The 23-year-old centre is the grandson of Kevin Bew and great nephew of Alan Preece, both former players.
Hagan emerged at community club Oulton Raiders, less than five miles from Hunslet, before spending this year playing for Bradford Reserves.
He was unable to break into a strong first team at Bartercard Odsal but took both the coach’s and players’ player of the year accolades at second-team level.
“I cant wait to get going at Hunslet. The club are steeped in history, and I have family ties there,” he said.
“To follow in their footsteps means a great deal to me and I can’t wait to get started and rip into pre-season.
“I am excited to meet the lads and I’m looking forward to getting going and hopefully having a great season and showing the fans what I can do.”
Coach Kyle Trout added: “Lewis is a young and hungry to for an opportunity to play first-team rugby following an impressive season playing for Bradford’s Reserve team.
“He will bring great utility value and also provide competition for places in the outside backs.
“He is a great athlete and very professional in what he does, and we are looking forward to seeing him in pre-season.”
Hunslet will hope Hagan can emulate Billy Jowitt, the versatile back who has thrived at the club since switching from Bradford a year ago.
Jowitt swept the board at the recent awards night and is under terms for 2026.
Hagan will also be able to earn from the likes of experienced backs Mo Agoro, who has moved from Oldham for a second Hunslet stint, and popular club stalwart Jimmy Watson.
Utility forward Liam Carr has signed a contract extension for 2026.
