Hydration breaks introduced for weekend’s rugby league after heat warnings

ALL rugby league games this weekend will feature hydration breaks as the UK battles extreme heat.

There will be a stoppage of at least 90 seconds, around 20 minutes into each half, in both professional- and community-level matches.

Depending on the severity of conditions, additional 90-second breaks will be considered at the half-hour mark and after 70 minutes.

There are currently red weather warnings in place for much of the south of England and amber warnings across some of the north until Friday night.

Thursday night’s Super League match between Warrington Wolves and Catalans Dragons is set to kick-off at 8pm in 29C temperatures.

On Saturday, Yorkshire and Lancashire are forecast to reach up to 30C, before dropping to highs of 24C on Sunday.

In France, which is experiencing a severe heatwave, it is forecast to be 38C when Toulouse Olympique’s Super League match with Leigh Leopards kicks-off at 6pm local time on Saturday.
