Injury crisis threatens to derail Wakefield’s Challenge Cup hopes

Wakefield are sweating on the fitness of three more players ahead of Saturday’s Challenge Cup semi-final with Warrington as Chris Chester begins to count the cost of Sunday’s defeat to Castleford.

Chester insisted it was too early to rule on whether Bill Tupou, Mikey Sio and Jonny Molloy will miss Saturday’s clash against the Wolves at Leigh Sports Village after all were withdrawn on Sunday.

He will not rule out anyone just yet, but admits they are doing it tough with injuries at the moment as the Wakefield coach looks to repeat the feat he achieved with Hull KR 12 months ago: beat Warrington in the last four to make it to Wembley against the odds.

“It’s too early to say with the lads who are injured,” he said.

“Bill came off with a hamstring injury, Jonny Molloy has got a pec issue and Mikey Sio got a sternum injury, so those three couldn’t come back.”
