International U18 Tournament for Belgrade Trophy begins today

Four nations meet in the capital of Serbia over the next three days to contest the Belgrade trophy for U18s.  Serbia, England Lionhearts (North West), Lebanon and Bosnia & Hertzegovina’s Vitez will do battle.

The semi finals today are being played at the SC Makish, Police Stadium and the play off and final on Sunday will be staged at the FC Radniki ground.

“We are happy that we can again host talented rugby league youngsters from different parts of the world,” said Serbia U18 coach, Admir Hadžić.  “Teams coming all the way from Lebanon and England is a great sign of respect for the growth of rugby league in our country, and in the region especially as we have a team coming from Bosnia & Herzegovina.  I’m sure it will be an exciting tournament and a true rugby festival.”

The Junior Cedars first visited Belgrade in 2012, when they lost to the Lionhearts and the young Serbs.  “I am very proud of progress these young men have made over the past month, even though the preparations were in the midst of their finals exams,” noted Lebanon head coach, Nayef Abi-Said.  “As a team, the players are determined to go to Serbia and give their ultimate.”
