JAY PITTS doesn’t want the “hectic” Wakefield Trinity ride to stop just yet.
The forward is retiring at the end of the campaign after a 19-year professional career.
It started at Wakefield and took in stops at Leeds Rhinos, Hull FC, Bradford Bulls and London Broncos, before returning home in 2020.
Trinity have never been so close to a Super League Grand Final and nor has Pitts ever played so deep into a play-off campaign.
But as he looked ahead to Saturday’s semi-final at Wigan Warriors and the prospect of closing his career at Old Trafford, he said: “The current team that we’ve got here is something special.
“Being a part of it, from being relegated to winning the Championship and the pathway to where we are now, it’s been pretty fast and hectic, but I’ve really enjoyed it.
“All the staff and all the players and everyone here have been amazing. To be where we are is a credit to everyone who is a part of it.
“I’m really proud to say I’m part of this as well, and hopefully we can reflect that this weekend when we go over to Wigan.
“Play-off games have got some real intensity. You’ve got to have the right attitude and you’ve got to execute plays. We’re under no illusions it’ll be really tough but we’re confident we can do that.
“We’ve shown this year that we can perform at a high standard. Last week (beating Leigh Leopards in an eliminator) was a step forward and this will be another step up. I’m sure we’ll be ready to go when it comes to it.”
Pitts says he has not decided on his future course after retirement, but explained: “Speaking with my family and everything, the way the club is going and the way my career has gone, I think it was the right time to call it time.
“I’ve done 19 years of playing – it’s a long time.”
At least he’ll leave Wakefield in a very good place.
“It’s great that fans are getting behind us and we’re bringing more people in, we’re performing better on the pitch and the results are good,” he said.
“That hopefully puts the club in great stead going forward for a long time.”
