Jim Lenihan keen to keep Adam Swift as Huddersfield Giants players urged to earn deals

HUDDERSFIELD GIANTS head coach Jim Lenihan has expressed his desire to keep veteran Adam Swift at the club, despite the winger’s injury troubles.

Swift has played just 39 games in three seasons for the Giants following a number of injury issues, and he is out of contract at the end of the 2026 season.

However, Lenihan is keen for the 33-year-old, who has scored 34 tries for the club, to pen a new deal.

“I think he’s been really good for us. The unfortunate thing for Swifty is, at the moment, he can’t get the games on the field that he wants,” Lenihan said.

“He gets really down when he keeps picking up injuries here and there but when he’s on the field he’s a really good contributor.

“I think he’s been one of our best when he’s on the field. He’s certainly someone we want to keep at the club.

“We’ve just got make sure we can keep him on the field to make sure we get the rewards we are after.”

Following such a difficult season for the Giants, in which they sit plum bottom of the Super League ladder, as many as 16 players sit out of contract.

Lenihan has challenged those players to earn new deals before the Australian looks elsewhere for numbers.

He said: “We’re still working on the turnover of players. We have a fair few people off contract which opens up opportunities.

“I’ve said to the blokes here that if they prove they are doing what we want them to do then we will keep them.

“If we’re not getting what we want from those blokes then we will have a chance to look for other people.

“There is certainly a chance for us to change personnel so it’s up to the individuals to put themselves in the window to stay.”
