Hull FC forward Joe Westerman is out to right the wrongs of last season’s horrific cup final defeat, as they get their campaign underway against Salford Red Devils this evening.
After making it all the way to the final in 2013, they were soundly beaten by Wigan Warriors in the Wembley showpiece – and suffered the ignominy of being nilled in the process. Westerman admits that final still haunts him, and it was an opportunity missed.
“It was awful losing that final. It was a game we had a good chance of winning. We were poor on the day and were still in with a chance of winning and it was an opportunity lost,” Westerman claimed in the Hull Daily Mail.
“If we can get a win tonight and get in the next round I feel we have every chance of getting to the final again this year with the squad we have,” said Westerman.
“The coaching staff are determined, as are all the players, and as a club I feel we deserve to not only get there again but also to win it.”
