Kear targets Qualifiers spot

Batley Bulldogs head coach John Kear believes his side’s early season form makes them contenders for a top four spot.

The Bulldogs are second in the Championship after six rounds of the season and have already played the top five teams from last season.

Their results have seen them collect seven points from a possible eight against the teams that made the Qualifiers last year, with Whitehaven up next.

With results being unpredictable in the league so far this year, Batley’s consistency has put them in a commanding position, and Kear is hopeful his side can now consolidate their place in the league.

“If we’d have been in the Middle 8s last year we’d have seven out of eight points at the minute, and that’s pretty good form. We’ve just got to maintain it now,” he said.

“We’re in the top four at the minute so I suppose we are (in contention), but make us contenders by round 21 or 22 please!”
