Kaye relishing fight for places at Fax

Halifax RLFC hooker Ben Kaye has admitted he feels more focused than ever after Halifax’s pre-season recruits have put his position under threat.

A number of impressive new arrivals have joined Fax ahead of the 2016 season as they aim for another shot in the Qualifiers. Among them is young hooker Brandon Moore, who has joined the club after leaving Castleford Tigers despite impressing in the under 19s.

Moore presence adds more competition for Kaye, who already fights for a place alongside Ryan Maneely and versatile pivot Connor Robinson.

However, Kaye admitted that he is relishing the opportunity to play with so many talented players, and the threat of losing his position has made him step up his game.

“Brandon coming in was probably a rocket up my backside, if I’m honest,” Kaye told the Halifax Courier.

“He’s come in from Castleford where he was Player of the Year in the 19s and he’s going to challenge me and Ryan and Connor Robinson.

“We’re all under some pressure now, right through the team, and I think that’s going to make everyone play better.

“It’s a long season and you need to know you’ve got the players to cover those positions.”
