Kear delighted as Batley close in on major financial reward

John Kear was delighted as Batley moved one step closer to a hefty financial incentive after defeating Featherstone 11-10.

With the two teams effectively fighting for seventh and eighth position in the Qualifiers, it meant the game was a battle for an addition £50,000 in central distributions.

Both clubs are already set for a luxurious financial increase from last season after they didn’t make the Qualifiers last season.

Batley’s victory now means that they are in prime position to pick up £550,000 at the end of the season, a substantial increase from last year’s £150,000 reward.

Following the game, Kear was delighted to have secured an important victory for the club.

“It’s big for the club and it will allow them to build,” he said. “It’ll make them stable for the next two or three years and it’s a great way to finish.

“They made a profit last year – they’ll make an even bigger one this year. Not many clubs can turn around and say they’re in the black, but this one can.”
