Kevin Locke to play rugby union

Former Salford and Wakefield fullback Kevin Locke has found himself a new club – in rugby union.

The ex-New Zealand international is making the switch to the 15-man code after agreeing a deal to sign for the Greater Sydney Rams.

The Rams play in what is effectively the second tier, the National Rugby Championship (NRC) – below the elite competition, Super Rugby.

However, Locke will spend time with Southern Districts in the Shute Shield before an anticipated debut with the Rams in the future.

Locke, who left Wakefield under a cloud last year after a largely unsuccessful stint in Super League, is on the road to recovery after undergoing a shoulder reconstruction, and it is hoped by his new club that he could play for Districts next month before starting for the Rams in August.
