DARYL POWELL says Wakefield Trinity will take some key lessons from their heartbreaking loss to Leeds Rhinos.
Wakefield led 22-6 early in the second half before Leeds fought back in thrilling fashion for a 24-22 win.
“I thought we had an excellent first half. I didn’t think Leeds deserved that at the end but they got it,” said Trinity coach Powell.
“Our second half was pretty poor to be honest. Leeds chased us down after we scored that try at the start of the second half.
“We made too many errors, we couldn’t get any pressure, we were giving penalties away in yardage which really hurt us.
“I think there’s some key lessons in big games for us that we need to be little bit better at.
“It takes until the last five minutes for them to reel us in, and while you could see it coming we still had a fair bit of fight about us.
“We just couldn’t get any pressure on their line – we didn’t quite have that clarity of thought.
“They’ve got a lot of attacking threats and while we dealt with them for the most part, it gets you when you’re under pressure.
“Leeds just had the weight of territory and possession in the second half that allowed them to reel us in.
“It’s disappointing, but I reckon if we play Leeds again next week we have a fair shot. They’re a good team, but we are as well.”
