Salford Red Devils coach Ian Watson insists that owner Marwan Koukash deserves to enjoy their stunning victory against St Helens.
The Robert Lui-inspired Red Devils thumped St Helens 44-10 on Thursday night, recording their first win of the season a year on from their 52-6 hammering at the hands of the Saints almost 12 months ago to the day.
That result prompted Koukash to tweet “I have had enough” – but Watson sensed that Koukash would enjoy this result much more.
“Marwan deserves to enjoy a win like that,” he said.
“He’s a passionate bloke; he deals with things on emotion so what you see is what you get – tonight will be a good night for him.”
Watson admitted the margin of victory did shock him somewhat – but praised the group for their response to last weekend’s loss to Hull.
“It’s a very pleasing result, especially off of the response from the Hull defeat – it was important we did that. We spoke about making sure that we had a good start; we dropped the ball from the kick-off last week and we had to set a platform tonight.
“The size of the win surprised me; we know we’re a real confident group and we’ve got a real belief about ourselves. It was about putting something right from last week – if we keep our consistency we’ll beat some teams. Time will tell whether we can keep this up.”
