STAR fullback Lachlan Miller will remain with Leeds Rhinos through to the end of 2028 after an extension was triggered in his contract.
The Australian has grown into one of Leeds’ leading lights over his three seasons with the club, scoring 19 tries in 73 appearances and being among Super League’s top metre-makers.
His most recent contract, signed last October, committed Miller only until the end of 2027 with an option to extend in the club’s favour.
After a season which has seen him earn a place on the three-man shortlist for this year’s Man of Steel award, that has now been taken up.
“Lachie is an important part of our squad and we’re really pleased that he’ll be staying at Leeds until at least the end of 2028,” said Rhinos coach Brad Arthur.
“He brings a lot of energy to the team and he’s got genuine attacking ability. He can create something from nothing, but his effort and workrate are just as important to us.
“I think he would be the first to say that he is constantly learning and finding ways to improve his game, and that is a brilliant attitude to have from one of our senior players.”
Miller, who at 31 is a late bloomer in the game having previously represented his country at rugby sevens including at the Olympics in 2021, said: “I’m really happy to have agreed the extension.
“I’ve really enjoyed my time here. The club has made me feel very welcome and there’s a great group of players and staff who are all working towards the same goal.
“The support from the Rhinos fans has been unreal and playing at AMT Headingley is something I’ve really enjoyed.
“I’m looking forward to spending the next few years here and hopefully we can give the fans plenty to be excited about.”
Miller is currently sidelined by a hamstring injury and can play no part in their play-off campaign, which begins on Friday night with a home semi-final against Warrington Wolves.
With captain Ash Handley, their initial stand-in at fullback, now also out with a bulging disc, young academy product Fergus McCormack is to take on the important position.
“I’m gutted not to be out there with the boys on Friday for a huge night,” added Miller, “but I will be there cheering them on and doing everything I can to support them.
“I think Fergie McCormack is a great prospect and I am excited to see him in action. Having worked with him closely, I am confident he will thrive in a game like this.”
