LEAGUE EXPRESS’ French reporter Steve Brady has died in Wigan and Leigh Hospice after a battle against cancer.
His wife Denise made an announcement on Tuesday morning on X.
“It is with great sadness that in the early hours of this morning Steven passed away, he died peacefully in his sleep following his short battle against Cancer,” she wrote.
“I would like to thank you all for your support in helping Steven promote French Rugby League. Denise.”
Writing under the Total Rugby League X handle, League Express editor Martyn Sadler responded by saying: “Desperately sad news! Steve was one of the finest people I knew. My sincere sympathy to you, Denise, and to all your family. He was a terrific contributor to League Express and we will miss him so much. I’m so glad I came to see him and you a few weeks ago.”
Steve Brady was a former editor of the Rugby Leaguer in the days prior to its merger with League Express in 2002.
From 2018, having moved to live in the South of France with his wife Denise, he became the League Express correspondent for French Super League club Catalans Dragons, providing match and news reports for the club, as well as news reports for Toulouse Olympique.
He also worked for various Rugby League Internet sites and occasionally acted as Sky Sports’ sideline reporter for Catalans home games.
“Steve was an enthusiastic, highly professional reporter who was a joy to work with,” added Sadler.
“He had a great sense of humour and he and his wife Denise were great together.
“My best wishes go to her at what is clearly a very difficult time.
“We will all miss Steve. He leaves a big gap that will be difficult to fill.”
