Wigan Warriors coach Shaun Wane has insisted that when it comes to Wigan v St Helens games, the fact the two sides are so closely matched at the top of the league does not make a bit of difference – as they’re always intense matches.
Wigan and Saints know that a win for either side could send them top of Super League tonight, with Wigan needing to overturn a points difference deficit on current league leaders Leeds if they are to head to the summit.
But, ahead of the match against Langtree Park which pits second against third, Wane insisted that even if one side was bottom of the table, it simply wouldn’t matter.
“The league position – it honestly doesn’t bother me,” Wane said at his pre-match press conference. “If we were bottom and they were top, it would still be game on.
“If we’d lost our last two games, we’d still be in the mood for this.”
