Players should be motivated for fresh start, says Smith

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats coach Brian Smith has insisted that everyone should be keen to make an impression this weekend against Salford – after saying that everyone gets a “fresh start”.

After 14 straight defeats in the league, Wakefield tackle the second bottom Red Devils in Smith’s first game in charge since replacing James Webster.

And the 61-year-old believes that everyone has a chance to impress under a new regime, and says the players should have plenty of motivation to prove a point ahead of his debut match in charge.

“Unless someone wants to go, they’re here to stay, certainly for my five months. I made a commitment to work with the guys that are here, both staff and players, and I’m happy to do that,” said Smith.

“They should be jumping out of their skins. It’s not about me, it’s just anybody coming in, it gives everybody in the place a fresh start. Everybody’s a chance while I’m here.”
