Lee Briers believes Super League duo would “kill it” in the NRL

NEW St Helens assistant coach Lee Briers believes that two Super League players would “kill it” in the NRL.

It perhaps comes as little surprise that those two players are Wigan Warriors pair Jai Field and Bevan French, who have been two of Super League’s most exciting players since their move from the NRL.

Both Field and French are expected to be in the running for the 2024 Steve Prescott Man of Steel following stellar years so far for the Warriors.

But, incoming Saints assistant Briers, who has just spent two seasons in the NRL with Brisbane Broncos, believes that Australian clubs are “mental” for not taking a look at either Field or French.

“They’d kill it. I just can’t believe that (they are not in the NRL),” Briers said on Sky Sports’ The Bench podcast.

“It’s not that I would want them to go though because they’re in Super League and they light the Super League up.

“But they are mental in Australia if they think Jai Field and Bevan French can’t make it.

“I watch every game back in Australia and Bevan French looks like he’s in fast forward when he’s running.

“That kick that he scored the other day (against Hull KR), a left foot kick and he gets around somehow.”
