Leeds Rhinos have confirmed they will be holding their traditional Boxing Day fixture at Headingley this year, taking on Wakefield the day after Christmas at 11:30am.
The Rhinos are likely to hand a debut out to Beau Falloon, their big-name signing from Australia, in the fixture – just as they did last year when Adam Cuthbertson made his Leeds bow in the one-off friendly.
Falloon said: “I am really looking forward to it. I have been told about the traditional surrounding the game and over here in Australia there is a huge tradition of sport on Boxing Day with horse racing and cricket but it will be great to play some Rugby League on Boxing Day morning this year.
“I watched how the season ended for the boys last year and I can’t wait to pull on a Rhinos shirt.”
Phillip Murphy, Co-owner of the Wetherby Whaler Group, who will sponsor the game, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to be sponsoring the Wetherby Whaler Festive Challenge. We have worked in partnership with both Wakefield Wildcats and Leeds Rhinos and know that lots of our customers are die-hard rugby fans and many follow one of these teams.
“We’re looking forward to a cracking day, a great match and we’d encourage as many fans as possible to come along for what will be a great Boxing Day match.”
