Leeds sweating on trio ahead of Saints clash

Leeds Rhinos coach Brian McDermott has revealed that the club are sweating on the fitness of three key players ahead of tonight’s game against St Helens.

Fresh from their Challenge Cup success last weekend, the Rhinos have fitness doubts over centre Kallum Watkins, hooker Rob Burrow and full-back Zak Hardaker, with all three a doubt for this evening.

But McDermott refused to completely rule any of them out of contention for tonight’s game until the very last possible minute, given Leeds’ exertions at Wembley last weekend.

“Kallum has got an ankle issue, Rob Burrow has got a quad issue and Zak has got a deep tear or gash in his leg,” he said.

“These are a couple of week things, no more, but we’re not ruling them out of playing on Friday too.

“But even if they don’t play on Friday, we’re hopeful it’ll be nothing more than a week out of action. With the nature of what we’ve just been through we’ll give them until the eleventh hour before we definitely rule them out.”
