Huddersfield Giants hooker Kruise Leeming has signed a two-year contract extension to keep him at the John Smith’s Stadium until the end of the 2017 season.
Leeming, 19, a Giants home-grown Academy player who played his junior rugby with the Siddal club, has made four appearances so far this season and ten in total. Giants coach Paul Anderson is pleased to add Leeming to his 2016 squad. “Kruise had an opportunity in first grade earlier in the year and took it with both hands, which was great to see,” said Anderson.
“As a young hooker he is right in the thick of the action and we must manage his game-time carefully as he continues to mature physically and mentally.
“He has a good skill set and awareness of the needs of games and I’m very happy that he’s staying around for at least a couple of more years and look forward to seeing him continue to improve.
“For any club to be consistently successful the progression of younger players into Super League regulars is necessary and Kruise deserves the opportunity to continue on that path here at his local Super League club.” Leeming is happy to have settled his immediate future.
“I am very happy at Huddersfield and feel I am getting stronger with the training regime here, and to have a guaranteed couple more years is ideal.
“It’s a whole different ball game speed and strength wise playing Super League to the Academy but I think I’ve done okay so far.
“I know there is lots of competition here for places and the off season will be important to me but for now I’m working to keep my place in the side and trying to get us as high up the league as possible.”
