Leigh Centurions have confirmed Jake Emmitt’s departure from the club with immediate effect.
The 27-year-old prop had been at the Centurions since the beginning of the 2014 season and won numerous individual accolades at the end of his two full seasons with the club.
He was a standout star in Leigh’s victory over Bradford Bulls at the Summer Bash in what proved to be his last appearance for the club. He will now pursue a long-held ambition to travel and play in Australia having made 89 appearances in total for the Centurions, scoring 15 tries.
“Jake has thought long and hard about going travelling and playing in Australia and getting into the feeder club system over there,” Leigh head coach Neil Jukes revealed.
“It got to the point where his desire to fulfil that ambition outweighed his desire to stay with us. In any team sport you need every player to be 100 percent committed and it’s important that decisions like this are taken now rather than in the Middle 8s.
“Jake has had a long held desire to get over to Australia and travel and discussions have been going on quite a while. Throughout the process Jake has remained really professional and it has all been amicable. I’d like to wish him all the best for the future as the rest of the players and staff will do.”
