Leigh Leopards boss Adrian Lam explains Jack Ashworth signing

LEIGH LEOPARDS head coach Adrian Lam has admitted he has been a fan of Jack Ashworth for a “number of years” after completing the signing of the forward.

The 31-year-old has been at the Leigh Sports Village before, having previously played on loan with the club back in 2019 and 2021, making four and five appearances respectively.

Having come through the St Helens academy, Ashworth went on to make 47 appearances for the Merseysiders – including their 2019 Grand Final win – before the prop enjoyed spells at Huddersfield Giants and Hull FC.

Ashworth has most recently plied his trade with Castleford Tigers since the start of this season but played just eleven times.

And Lam was thankful to get the deal, which runs until the end of 2028, over the line before the transfer deadline.

He said: “I’ve been a fan of his for a number of years. I tried to get him here a couple of years ago and it didn’t work. It’s good timing for a mobile forward who’s aggressive with the ball.

“As a coaching staff we feel we can take him to another level. He’s got a ceiling we can work with and he’s on a two-year deal. I’m really excited about that.

“He’s been here before so he understands how it operates – though not under me. He’s excited for the opportunity to show himself moving forward.”
