Leigh Leopards boss ‘really pleased’ after nerve-wracking Hull FC win

ADRIAN LAM was pleased to see Leigh Leopards hold out in a “nerve-wracking” finish at Hull FC.

The Leopards had seemed to be cruising towards victory after building up a 28-0 lead in a one-sided opening half, but needed a 71st-minute Josh Charnley try to eventually see off a spirited Hull comeback to win 32-22.

“It was a bit nerve-wracking towards the back end of that, but we got through it,” Lam said of the game of two halves.

“To be honest, at the start of the week, if we’d have won by one point here today, I’d have been happy with that.

“I don’t want to look too much into it, but I’m very pleased.”

Josh Charnley and David Armstrong both scored twice for Leigh – for whom Adam Cook starred with a try, three conversions and a penalty-goal – as they took advantage of Hull KR’s loss to Warrington Wolves to move up to fifth.

“I think for points for and against, it would have been very nice to build on that half-time score,” admitted Lam. “But I think that puts us in fifth spot.

“It’s been a difficult couple of weeks with the injuries and things like that, so I’m not going to look into that second half too much.

“There was plenty of effort there throughout that first half. Sometimes that’s a good thing for you when that happens in the last 40 minutes with what’s coming up, just to keep our finger on it.”
