LEIGH LEOPARDS could be without back-rower Frankie Halton for the rest of the season.
Halton was forced off with a pec injury late in the first half of Leigh’s 28-12 win over Warrington Wolves.
Edwin Ipape also failed a head-injury assessment, meaning he will miss next Friday’s visit of Wigan Warriors.
David Armstrong played on with a thigh knock, while Gareth O’Brien pulled out on the morning of the game.
“Frankie Halton looks like he’s done his pec and it could be long-term, it could be the season,” said coach Adrian Lam.
“It’s not a good injury to do. Fingers crossed it’s not (that), but it’s looking that way.”
With that adversity in mind, Lam was delighted to secure the win over Warrington.
“I’m just relieved in a sense, especially after the second half where we had a few injuries and it could have been really tight there,” he added.
“They (Warrington) had the majority of the ball and I thought we defended really well at times.
“Just the way we hung in there collectively as a group at different parts of the game was inspirational.
“When we were down to twelve (men through Josh Charnley’s sin bin) for a while, it was tough as well, but I thought we defended great.
“We sort of had to play within (ourselves) a little bit to get through because I saw the boys were gassed and, with only two subs, it was going to be a difficult (last) 40 minutes to get through.
“We were really physical, and I knew that was going to be the case. I think they were fired up at the start of the game, but once it settled down, I thought some of our rugby was as good as we’ve had this year, so I’m really pleased.”
