Leigh still chasing Rangi

Leigh’s pursuit of maverick halfback Rangi Chase remains ongoing after head of rugby Derek Beaumont revealed he has held further discussions with the former Man of Steel.

Chase’s future remains in the balance following his release from Salford, with Leigh’s attempts to lure the former England international to the Championship highly documented.

It was believed the move had collapsed due to salary cap restrictions, with big-name signings Harrison Hansen, Reni Maitua and Cory Paterson already through the doors of LSV.

Chase is thought to be in New Zealand after posting this picture on Instagram.

However, Beaumont confirmed he has had talks with the player about a move to the ambitious Championship side.

“It is no secret that I have expressed an interest in attempting to bring him to Leigh – he is a truly magical player,” Beaumont told the Leigh Observer.

“There are obviously a number of Super League and NRL teams keeping a watchful eye on the situation. There is also the issue of the salary cap to consider which currently hampers me in such a situation.

“But yes I have spoken to Rangi and yes I have met with him. He is familiar with our club and what we would have to offer.”
