LONDON BRONCOS coach Jason Demetriou says it’s great to be through to the 1895 Cup final – and reckons his players deserve credit for doing it with some stylish rugby.
A 62-24 victory over Midlands in Birmingham in the semis sealed a meeting with Widnes at Warrington’s Halliwell Jones Stadium on Monday, August 31 (3pm).
It was a 16th straight win for London, whose only defeat in 20 matches this year was at Super League Bradford in the Challenge Cup third round.
After a blank weekend, London are preparing to visit Batley on Sunday, where they will aim to maintain their 100 percent Championship record in their 15th match.
“This group are doing some special things, and I’m proud of the way they are conducting themselves, the style of rugby they have been playing and their consistency,” said Demetriou.
“There’s been a lot of talk about former NRL players in our team, but at least two-thirds of the squad were in the Championship or Queensland Cup last year, and they have worked hard to improve and play better footy than they were doing.
“They have connected as a group and I’m really pleased with the way they are going.”
Demetriou added: “The 1895 Cup was something we put on the calendar at the start of the year as something we wanted to win, and we are a step closer to that.
“You can feel that the boys are excited to be through to a final, and it’s great that our supporters can see us in one.”
Versatile forward Marcus Stock made his 100th London appearance against Midlands.
The 30-year-old from Milton Keynes, who started his professional career at Hemel Stags, joined the club from York ahead of the 2023 season.
