BIRMINGHAM HURRICANES will have outside back Luis Roberts in their squad for two more seasons – and he says it was an easy decision to stay put.
The 24-year-old former Salford, Swinton, Leigh and Leeds player has made 34 appearances for the club so far, contributing 16 tries.
As Midlands, the Hurricanes finished eighth this year, winning 13 and drawing one of their 24 league games.
Mark Dunning’s men then made it past Whitehaven in the play-offs before bowing out at Oldham, with the coach already plotting further progress next time around.
After penning his contract extension, Roberts explained: “When Mark spoke to me towards the end of the season about my future at the club, it was a no-brainer to re-sign.
“I’ve really enjoyed my two seasons here, and to be able to go again with this group of lads and coaching staff was a really easy choice for me.
“I’m looking forward to getting stuck in next season as the club go through their next stage following the rebrand to Birmingham (after four years as Midlands).”
Dunning added: “I’m delighted Luis has committed his future to the club.
“He has settled well here and is enjoying his rugby again, which is great, and we certainly enjoy having him here as part of a competitive group.
“He showed his value and versatility last season and, as with everyone else associated with the club, we’re now chasing consistency and continued development.
“He has a big pre-season ahead of him, and we have already set him some targets which will enhance him and his game further.
“If he rises to the challenge, everyone at the club will be very happy watching Luis rip it up in a Birmingham shirt.”
