Richard Marshall the early favourite for Leeds job

Richard Marshall has been named as the favourite to become next Leeds Rhinos head coach by Super League’s title sponsor, Betfred.

Marshall, who left Halifax last month after more than four years in charge, has been priced at 4/1 to succeed Dave Furner, who was sacked on Tuesday.

He was spotted with Kevin Sinfield, Leeds’ director of rugby, at the AJ Bell Stadium as they watched what proved to be Furner’s final game in charge of the Rhinos, a 28-16 defeat to Salford Red Devils.

Richard Agar, who is in interim charge, is at 5/1, as is Shaun Wane, who the Guardian claim is interested in taking the role. Wane is one of the most successful coaches of his era following his time at Wigan and formerly played for Leeds in the 90s.

Daryl Powell and Danny Ward are next in the running while Australians Shane Flanagan, Anthony Griffin, Adam O’Brien and Jason Dememtriou are also among the front-runners.
