SALFORD have brought back another former favourite in Matty Ashurst, and the back-rower hopes to use all his experience to help drive them up the table.
After starting out at St Helens, Ashurst spent three seasons with the old Red Devils from 2012, scoring twelve tries in 75 appearances.
He then established himself as a Wakefield Trinity favourite over a full decade there, and has played for Oldham over the past two seasons.
Despite turning 37 on November 1, Ashurst has signed a two-year contract at Salford, who were revived last winter after the previous club was wound up and finished twelfth in the Championship.
“It’s been a while since I was here but I’ve never forgotten how much this place and team means to the supporters,” he said.
“I’m a different player now and that’ll no doubt show with what I’ll bring, especially with it being a young squad.”
He won’t be the only veteran there, however, as he joins Marc Sneyd and Jake Bibby, both Super League stars when the Red Devils were competing for major honours, in returning to the CorpAcq Stadium. Bibby has also joined from Oldham.
