MAX JOWITT couldn’t have asked for a better home farewell – now he wants to make sure his last Wakefield Trinity appearance is at Old Trafford.
The fullback isn’t being kept on next season and will instead move to York Knights after almost 200 games in red, white and blue across 13 seasons.
Despite a difficult season with injury and form, Jowitt became first-choice again for the run-in and kicked five goals to help see off Leigh Leopards and make the semi-finals.
“Playing my last game here for Wakefield was special,” he said.
“I picked up an injury at the start of the year and missed quite a few weeks, came back and didn’t have much form. That’s my own doing, not finding enough consistency in my game.
“But I’ve been given a chance again, I wanted to put everything into these last couple of months and I feel like I’ve done that.
“It was a big game and I thought we dominated most of it. We just lacked a bit of clarity in good ball in the first half, but we fixed that up.
“We’ve got a special group of lads here, a great group of staff and an owner who is backing us all the way. We believe we can do it.
“We showed tonight that we’re capable of putting in a big performance in a big game.
“But ultimately it doesn’t mean much, because we’ve got to back it up again next week to reach the Grand Final.”
It would be some way for the fan favourite to end his time at the club, and he added: “This place has been a second home to me for many years.
“It’s probably the right time for me to have a new adventure somewhere else. I know (ex-Wakefield coach) Mark Applegarth, who has given me the opportunity at York, really well, and I’m looking forward to that, but I’ve got a job to do here first.”
