McDermott pays tribute to iconic Peacock

Leeds Rhinos head coach Brian McDermott has paid tribute to prop Jamie Peacock, as the former Great Britain captain warms up for his testimonial match this Sunday.

The legendary forward will face off against former club Bradford in a match to celebrate his legendary career, and as he prepares to enter his final season as a professional, Peacock has received a glowing testimony from McDermott – who has worked with Peacock as both a player and coach.

The praise doesn’t come much higher than from McDermott, who declared Peacock as one of the most “determined” players ever to have played Rugby League.

“He’s probably not the most glamorous player we’ve ever seen, although he’s been one of the most effective in Super League for a long time,” McDermott said.

“In fact, he’s probably one of the most determined players ever to have played our game.

“That determination and drive to get everything possible out of yourself and leaving nothing in the tank before retiring and saying you couldn’t have given any more, there won’t be too many who can boast that like JP.”
