Midlands Hurricanes strengthen with experienced halfback signed up

MIDLANDS HURRICANES have bolstered their squad with the addition of experienced halfback James Woodburn-Hall.

The 31-year-old Jamaica international and former London Broncos, Hemel Stags and Halifax Panthers player, who is also comfortable at fullback or centre, has spent the French Super XIII season with Avignon.

Now he is at Midlands at least until the end of a Championship campaign they aim to finish with a genuine bid for play-off success.

The Birmingham side are eighth with seven wins and a draw from 13 matches so far and through to the semi-finals of the 1895 Cup.

In that competition, they play London Broncos, where Woodburn-Hall began his career after coming through their old Academy system, at home on Saturday, June 13.

Before that comes a home league meeting with Whitehaven on Saturday, June 6.

There is an option to extend the contract of Woodburn-Hall, who made more than 180 Halifax appearances.

“I have been a big admirer of James for a number of years, and all the staff and players are looking forward to him integrating into our group for the rest of this season,” said Midlands coach Mark Dunning.

“He brings a wealth of experience and ability to the team having been a stand-out player at this level while representing Halifax, as well as testing himself in the top tier of the French game and internationally for Jamaica.

“He’s comfortable anywhere in the halves and the backline, which makes him a great asset for the club as he will provide some healthy competition for his teammates and also cover multiple positions.”
