NCL War of the Roses clash looms nearer!

THE inaugural War of the Roses match involving players from the Kingstone Press National Conference League will take place on Saturday (23 June) at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle, Castleford.

Lancashire will face Yorkshire at 3.00pm while, at 7.00pm, an Origin Legends match will be staged in a benefit game for Michael Shenton and Adrian Morley.

The action starts at 2.00pm with a junior Rugby League festival, while following the Legends match fans will be able to watch the England-New Zealand Test from Denver live on the big screen.

      Leeds Rhinos star and RugbyAM mainstay Jamie Jones-Buchanan is the driving force behind the War of the Roses clash which, in line with historical precedent, involves players who have opted for their county of choice. Two Cumbrians – Stephen Fox and Keiron Glenn, of Egremont Rangers – are in the Lancashire squad, which also includes Sean Kenny, Andy Lea and Matty Norton (all Thatto Heath Crusaders), Paul Brierley, Callum Marriot (Rochdale Mayfield), Darrion Ball, Connor Parkinson, Gavin Roden (Wigan St Jude’s), Rob Crompton, Daryl Kay (Leigh Miners Rangers), Ethan Langhorn, Gareth Morgan (Saddleworth Rangers), Ryan Hilliard, Jake Hodson, Greg Smith (Pilkington Recs), Jamie Bristo, Tyler Spence (Wigan St Patrick’s), Matthew Meadon (Ince Rose Bridge), Ryan Hickman (Woolston Rovers).

      Yorkshire have named James Barker and John Elkington (Milford Marlins), Gareth Blackburn, Freddie Walker (Siddal), Jamie Bradley, Jamie Fields, Craig McShane (Hunslet Club Parkside), Antony Chilton, Jordan Potter (York Acorn), Liam Copland (Stanningley), Reece Dean, Jon Gay (Skirlaugh), Gareth Gale, Danny Glassell (Featherstone Lions), Jack Howdle (Beverley), Jack Ledger, Rob Stanley (Oulton Raiders), Craig Savage, Luke Tagg (Lock Lane), Nathan Slater (Myton Warriors).

NCL bosses have yet to name the match officials.
