Keal Carlile will remain a Robins’ player for the next two seasons having signed a new deal with the club. The former Huddersfield man’s current contract was due to expire at the end of 2013 campaign and he’s delighted that his future will be with the red and whites.
“I’m over the moon,” he said. “Getting my future sorted is great and I really like what Sandy (Craig Sandercock) is doing here. My aim is to kick on next season and keep improving and I’m sure the team will do the same.
“I did have a couple of other options away from here but I’m really happy at Hull KR and am looking to become a better player under Sandy and the rest of the coaching staff. Being here for the next two years is what I wanted and I’m just delighted that it’s all done now.
“I’m only 23 and am learning every day. By the time I reach the end of this contract I’ll be more experienced and hopefully will have improved as a player. There is competition for places within the squad and you need that to push you along. I’ve had that this season with Josh (Hodgson) and Lincoln (Withers) and it keeps you on your toes.”
Carlile has enjoyed playing under Craig Sandercock’s stewardship and says that the Aussie’s presence at the club played a big part in his decision to stay in east Hull.
“Sandy is a very good coach and goes into a lot of detail,” he added. “He’s very specific in what he teaches and him being here for next season was one of the major factors behind my decision to stay as well. I’m happy that I’ll be playing under his leadership and I’m certain that Sandy will continue to play a big part in developing my game.”
Sandercock himself is delighted to have retained the hooker’s services and said:
“It’s great news for the club that Keal is staying for at least another two years. He has been a pleasure to coach, is a thorough professional and we have seen some real improvements in his game.
“Keal is still only young and if he maintains his positive attitude and continues to train hard, he has a very bright future in our game.”
