Newcastle sign former Wakefield forward Anthony Tupou

Newcastle Knights have confirmed the signing of former Wakefield forward Anthony Tupou on a one-year contract for the 2017 season.

Tupou spent 2016 with Trinity having joined from Cronulla on an initial two-year contract before being released at the end of lats season.

However, the 33-year-old, who is a native of Newcastle and has also previously played for Sydney Roosters, has joined up with the Knights for the new season after his time in Super League came to an end.

“We’re very pleased to bring Anthony to the Club ahead of the 2017 season,” coach Nathan Brown said of the signing.

“He has a wealth of experience in this competition and will be able to assist in the development of our younger forwards.”

Tupou is able to play at prop or in the back row, and has made 11 appearances for Australia and four for New South Wales.
