North Wales Crusaders’ new signing Tyme Nikau has arrived in the UK – and hopes to help the club in their push for the play-offs in 2020.
New Zealand-born Tyme is the son of former Super League and NRL star Tawera Nikau, who starred for the likes of Castleford Tigers and Warrington Wolves in the northern hemisphere.
After plying his trade in Newcastle’s top division in New South Wales over the last couple of years, Tyme, who bears a clear resemblance to his famous father, has decided to move over to the UK, signing terms with Crusaders for the 2020 campaign.
He visited Wrexham for the first time last weekend, meeting a number of Crusaders’ sponsors and partners.
On the move, he said: “I’m just adapting to the weather, but it’s going really well so far.
“I trained with the boys last Thursday and they were all very welcoming.
“It’s a bit of a test for me and something completely new.
“I’m still young and able so I thought I’d take up the opportunity.
“I’ve come here to add to what the team’s already got.
“Week in, week out, consistency is a big part of my game.
“I think it goes a long way in a team environment when the team know what they’re going to get out from you each week.
“When the team know you’re reliable, you probably can’t ask for a lot more than that.
“It’s a tough comp over here, but everything looks good and we’ve got some big lads in the side.
“I can’t wait now and I’m itching to get out there.”
