No deal for NFL star Brent Calloway at Catalans Dragons

Catalans Dragons have confirmed they will not be offering a trial to American Football player Brent Calloway, after an unsuccessful trial with the club.

The 22-year-old, who has played running back for the University of Alabama in the past, has been training with the French club’s reserve side over the past week. However, Dragons CEO Christophe Jouffret confirmed he will not be given a deal, largely owing to him having no previous experience of Rugby League.

“Brent showed a great potential during the physical tests, but having no previous experience of rugby league is a huge disadvantage and he has to learn the game,” Jouffret said.

“All the coaches were really impressed by his physical qualities, but as a club, we feel that his lack of experience and knowledge of rugby league cannot be bridged in a few months in the run up to our 2015 season.

“This has been an great experience for him and for our club and we would like to wish him all the best for the future.”
