PROP Jack Houghton has departed North Wales Crusaders by mutual agreement, two weeks before the Championship season begins.
The 28-year-old has been an important figure for North Wales over two spells, making 128 appearances in total and scoring 24 tries.
After a season with Swinton Lions, Houghton returned to Colwyn Bay last year and helped the club win the League One title.
He signed a new contract last July to remain with the Crusaders until the end of 2027, but now won’t be part of new coach Dean Muir’s side.
“I can see what Dean and the club are building, the squad looks immense and in a way I am sorry to leave,” said Houghton.
“I just feel that the time is right and I can look forward to developing a new phase of my rugby career.”
Muir, who succeeded Carl Forster as boss, said: “Jack will add value to any club.
“He has trained incredibly well in the pre-season, and on behalf of North Wales Crusaders I want to thank him for his loyalty and commitment over the years.”
