Former England international Chris Heighington has revealed to media in Australia that he is set to extend his stay in the NRL with Cronulla – after turning down Super League for 2016.
Heighington has long been linked with a move to Super League, but the 33-year-old says that he looks like extending his stay with Cronulla to become one of the oldest players in the NRL next year.
“I’m hoping to re-sign here and having it worked out in the next the week,” he told the Canberra Times.
“There is some young talent and I see a good future for the club. It’s exciting because there is a good feel around the club.
“Hopefully we can build another good year next year. [I spoke to clubs in England for] a little bit but I’ve been talking here [at the Sharks] for a few months so I just wanted to get that sorted and not lead anyone on.”
