NRL to have four themed rounds

The NRL has announced that there will be four themed rounds during the 2015 Telstra Premiership.

The NRL’s Head of Marketing, Lewis Pullen, said the themed rounds will focus attention on important aspects of Rugby League. They will have the following titles.

Play NRL (round 3) – encouraging children and families to participate in Rugby League

Women In League (round 10) – acknowledging the key role women play in the game

Heritage Round (Round 19) – partnering with the Men of League to recognise past players and the history of the game. It will include a charity element for injured players

Indigenous Round (Round 22) – supporting the huge contribution of Indigenous communities to Rugby League

In addition, the NRL will stage one of its biggest rounds ever – with five games in five cities on ANZAC Day (25 April) – as part of the commemoration of the centenary of the Gallipoli campaign.

Mr Pullen confirmed the themed rounds during a meeting with Club CEOs in Auckland today (Friday).

He said that, in addition to the Women in League round, the Jillaroos will take centre stage at the Dick Smith Auckland Nines this weekend when they play three games against the Kiwi Ferns.

“And 2015 will see the return of the Harvey Norman Rugby League All Stars match – which is one of the highlights of the NRL calendar,” he added.
